New Netsuite web designs using Multiple eCommerce Web Store Management. The original site was launched last year, now the client has expanded to maximize their ROI and build 2 more websites within the same Netsuite account. All 3 websites are using the same system to manage accounting, inventory, customer service, plus the content and look and feel of the ecommerce stores.

Example of one Netsuite dashboard managing all 3 sites.

Using eCommerce Software custom templates?

Sunday, April 20, 2008
One of the best things about being a Netsuite web designer, is the ability to customize the ecommerce templates at almost every level. In all of our projects, we produce at least four templates: Homepage, Category Template, Category Items Template, Item (Product) Template and a custom shopping cart design (some limitations). There are a few other sub-templates needed as well, like for related items and checkout. These templates are then added to the web store theme, then the CMS and product category will continue to use these ecommerce templates every time another page is created.

I'm on my Mac, the word "Products" in the search input should not be there on focus, jquery would be perfect for these netsuite sites since it's so unobtrusive by design. Besides that it looks great!

I really like the shopping cart in the top left column. Its reassuring. I always know how much I'm spending and its always there no matter how deep into the site I go. I just bought a bunch of stuff online today and the store had something similar but didn't sub-total my spending. Would have been nice if it did.

eCommerce Web Design for Musical Instruments

Saturday, March 15, 2008
When you are doing ecommerce web design using Netsuite, it is tough to continually roll out new concepts and still try and maintain best practices. The last thing you want to do is create a super cool new design, but the user experience is confusing and your conversation rates begin to drop.

In this new design, we maintained our best practice standards but introduced a new navigation structure using dynamic CSS and JavaScript. We used a horizontal rollover navigation that stays selected when you arrive at the respective category. This site just went live, so we are still fixing a some of the bugs. So take a look, and let us know what you think!

I am always worried about netsuite people taking logos done by designers and not branding them into netsuite sites in a professional manner.

You on the other hand did a great job on blending this logo into your netsuite webstore design.

5 stars:)
Good job, Alex.

can you use authorizenet merchant in Netsuite?

email to friend goes through www.alexdesign.com site, looks strange and unprofessional?
There is a way to use authorize.net as your merchant, but it is not a standard selection in NetSuite.

Email as friend is limited in NetSuite default settings, so we use a dynamic one to send the page you are on. Not sure why you saw it unprofessional. Its, simple and easy to use. I was surprised to find out how many people use that function. Its very active.

Next time don't post anonymous and share your website for review.
Hi alex,

The website looks awesome.

When you say its 100% Netsuite do you mean its using default themes of netsuite or is it hosted as html pages in netsuite.
Thanks for the kudos.

This is site is completely hosted in Netsuite using a CUSTOMIZED theme. You could also use HTML pages, but to get the benefit of the CMS - Content Management System you should use a theme.

Also, customize the theme, dont use the default.
Wonderful website. I was looking at this website and was wondering how you insert the 'outerwrapper' and 'innerwrapper div's tags after body tag.

I was trying to insert those tags in Body attribute of default themes in netsuite but it was not allowing.

Could you please tell me where do you insert those tags?

Thanks in advance..
Those div tags are automatically added by NetSuite when you set the "Page Alignment" align and "Page Width" within your admin. That is located in the Web Site Setup > Appearance. Url below to Web Site Setup.

https://system.netsuite.com/app/site/setup/siteadmin.nl?whence=

Let me know if that helps.
You are an absolute genius..it worked. The wrapper tags worked. I am trying built one site on NetSuite and your work is an inspiration for me.

In Netsuite its kind of difficult to generate the drop down menus dynamically from the account but you seem to be doing it without using external html or static links.

Your work is awesome. :) Thank you so much for running this blog and your help :)
hi alex..

Any idea as how far we can customise the customer centre 100% width pages like sales order, transaction etc using CSS. I am trying to fit it within 900px but struggling with it. Netsuite specifies table with 100% and there is no way i am able to wrap in another table of restricted width.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

This is an example of the type of stuff that we do that is not done using ecommerce. The focus is define persona click paths to teach visitors about the business and turn them into a lead. This results in a higher conversation rate from lead to sale by improving the quality of leads that are captured.

Nice work.

I assume that pretty much all the sites discussed here have "Advanced Site Customization" which we don't have. I'd be interested to see if there are any cool sites that have been developed without it. I think we've pushed the limits of the basic set up as far as we can by adding HTML to the discriptions, greetings etc and judiciously using hosted pages. You're welcome to take a look;

http://www.happytailsspa.com/

I'd be interested to know any other tips and tricks anyone else in my position has used to overcome the limitations of the basic set up.
Very interesting blog.

Keep up the good work!
Kevin,
Great job on your site. Yea, AlexDesigns will not work on a site unless it has "Advanced Site Customization". We require the flexibility to remove the code. This allows the site to use more CSS and make it more SEO friendly.

Please all the custom designs stuff we do. Want to write a guest post about non-advanced sites templates?
All these sites were designed in NetSuite??? So I guess I would be looking for some tips on what would be the best way for us to merge our design with NetSuite. I can design a site using dreamweaver without issues just still not sure how to combine the two.
Chris,
You can use Dreamweaver for NS sites. I use it, but it is a little different process than normal. You can not FTP to the NS file cabinet, so you need to create hardcode HTML pages and upload them by batching (via zip files). Or you need to manually move all the content into the Netsuite Content Management System (CMS). Hope that helps.
Hello,

Can someone please provide inforamtion that explains how to move the search box from the default left alignment?
Thanks

NetSuite Web Design for Medical Supplies

Monday, October 8, 2007
New NetSuite Web Design was launched recently to sell Medical Supplies online. This design was a challenge, because the price points are typically very high on medical supplies. So how do you gain confidence in the consumer to engage them and collect the lead or close a sale? Improving conversion rates and ROI is the ultimate goal, but establishing a connection with the customer and generating the lead is the first goal. What are you doing improve leads on your site? Tell us!

Here are a few ways we solved that problem:
  • Clear contact us area in the top right
  • Live chat support
  • On the item template, we added a "Make an offer" button
  • Secure shopping area with reasons to feel comfortable buying here
  • Testimonials from recent purchasers

eCommerce Web Design using NetSuite Software: Medical Equipment & Supplies

Monday, September 24, 2007
A new eCommerce web design with NetSuite has been added for review. This website is a great example of creating a simple, yet effective user experience for consumers looking to buy medical equipment supplies.

The site is marketed to hospitals, businesses, doctors, veterinarians and the general public for quality medical equipment. Each main category is essentially a new landing page for PPC, Natural Search and email marketing. The intent is to pull the visitors into each section and build credibility to drive conversions. The site architecture is also coded for NetSuite SEO, this includes using header (h1/h2 tags) and dynamic category and item templates.

Here are some additional highlights of Source Medical Equipment:
  • Mixture of Custom Category/List/Item Templates
  • Use of FREE Shipping as main promotion
  • Custom forms for lead generation
  • Custom Case Forms
  • Custom Homepage Template

QVC New Logo & Website In Time For Holiday Sales

Friday, September 21, 2007
Recently I was listening to public radio and I heard about how QVC is trying the first ad campaign in 21 years. This includes a new QVC logo and a new QVC website (released around 9/23/07).

Then I noticed another article in the NY Times online. Quote from the article:
QVC New Logo & WebsiteThe new logo is only part of the network's face-lift. Other components are a redesigned Web site, new on-air graphics, more colorful shipping boxes and an overhaul of the monthly magazine QVC Insider.

The new logo - the fourth in the company's 21-year history, and the first new one in 14 years - shows a thick Q meant to look as if it were made of the type of ribbon used in gift-wrapping. The company is aiming to highlight the pleasant experience of the package's arrival.

One of the interesting things about the design is that they are using latge background images in the main panels. They are doing this so the browser can scale to all different resolutions. It is a pretty common code design, but nice to see a main stream site testing different ways to ensure all users have the best experience.

QVC is really trying to ensure this ad campaign is successful. I even saw a commercial with Sheryl Crow talking about QVC helping toward breast cancer research with a daily shoe sale for women. The commercial actually had the new QVC logo on it, even though it is not on the website yet. There is a ton of integrated PR, promotional radio content and the coordination with the breast cancer month of Octover to launch a successful campaign prior to the holiday season starting. They are using big name female stars in their ads with pastel colors and (supposedly) a focus on the customer experience.

So I am excited to see what the new website will look like. After all it is a great ecommerce site that we can all learn from. Especially since QVC really knows how to market to woman and not just with girly colors.

NEW NetSuite Web Design Example

Wednesday, September 5, 2007
Reading through many NetSuite Web Design Blogs, I hear that the design and creativity is limited with ecommerce web store software. That is completely false. With NetSuite, you have complete flexibility to design whatever you want. Whether you want splash pages or flash in your NetSuite web design, you can do it. It is your canvas, feel free to be innovative.

Take a look at this NetSuite Web Design. It is completely different than most ecommerce sites out there, but it caters to products that they are marketing...

Netsuite Web Design Help

Friday, August 24, 2007
I receive a lot of email from developers and designers asking for help with their NetSuite Web Design. Usually it is a designer who is used to traditional web programming like PHP and CSS. Yet, NetSuite has a big learning curve so I try to help out when I can...

Example of an email conversation about NetSuite Web Design:

QUESTION:
I have a question for you maybe you could help me with. I'm not getting much help from the Netsuite Support folks.

I'm trying to redesign a website that's already in the Netsuite system with a new look, which will require me to change a whole bunch of code in different places (going from HTML3 to XHTML1/CSS).

I'd rather touch up all the pages already in the system than create everything from scratch. Is there a way to stage an existing website (netsuite system) and make all the necessary changes in the system with the availability of preview without affecting the way the live site looks right now?

ANSWER:
In NS, there is a section called "web site themes". You can create a new theme using your new code and design and then hit PREVIEW and it will open the site and allow you to do a staging server test environment without making the new site live yet.

QUESTION:
Thanks so much! I have 3 quick additional questions if you don't mind.

1. I cannot for the life of me find the code that is wrapping my main "left hand side" navigational items, which is basically Shop Categories and Sub Categories. I know the actual items get built out from Netsuite, but where do I find the HTML code that is wrapped around each navigational item (tr,td,classes, etc). Any ideas?

2. I have redesigned the client's entire website in table-less XHTML/CSS. Does Netsuite fully support this or am I SOL and gonna have to rewrite the code to work with some "wrapper" tables for major elements of the site?

3. Is there a good support community on Netsuite? I have registered for their message board, but do you know of any other communities with knowledgeable people?

You've been very helpful already!

ANSWER:
1. There should be a section called "Left Side Navigation Template" in Web Site Theme > Body. Click on the help for that section will show you have to add the code

2. NS still forces the main sections of the templates to be wrapped in tables. So I do 90% CSS and insert them in each of the table cells, example: http://www.utilitysafeguard.com/

3. The user group is the best community. It is much better than the NS support itself.

That url is: (You need to be an NS owner to get access)
https://usergroup.netsuite.com/users/index.php

I'm disappointed to hear that they do not fully support web standers.

Suite Success in Entrepreneur Magazine for Netsuite

Thursday, June 28, 2007
Isn't it great when you see a Netsuite website become successful. Recently JustPaperRoses.com was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine. The article reads:

Jeff Block, president of Davie, Florida-based JustPaperRoses.com, now has the freedom to grow more quickly than the old methods allowed. Before NetSuite, the 52-year-old paper floral designer gave his bookkeeping to an outside accountant, while changes to his gift website had to be sent to a contract designer who coded them in HTML. One of his three employees spent a large part of each day retyping web orders into different forms for accounting, shipping and customer resource management. Read more
